It looks like that there didn't exist such a newspaper in Hongkong at all. -But there existed a Japanese Hongkong Newspaper o v\ ned by the Japanese, but this w r as founded only in 1910. 7 It's hardly to be expected that this Japanese newspaper would have published from a Chinese patriotic view such wood-cut supplements in Chinese, which already then must be considered as a historical subject. It's possible however, that these were made immediately after the qouted events in the course of battles. We can find some w T ood-cuts elsewhere relating to the legend of Tung Fu-shiang. Some New Year's wood cuts (nienhua) represent actual events respectively the heros of them. There is also a wood-cut representing Tung Fu-hsiang 8 . The subscription of it is very interesting, because Hongkong is indicated on it as the provenance. Its Hao is probably a false one. Ku Kung­shuo explains it so, that the artist wanted to escape from the perturbations of the authorities and consequently he wrote a Hongkong address though he lived in Soochow. It may be supposed that in our case, the same reason was also why to put Hongkong Newspaper on the picture. It is possible, that they were also made in fact in Soochow.
