A Délvidék településeinek vallási adatai 1880–1941 (1999)
TARTALOM
PREFACE With the assistance of the National Scientific Research Fund and in accordance with new approaches it bacame possible to present the population structure by mother tongue and nationality of the localities of historical Hungary on the basis of population census data, in publications containing time series. So was the first published in 1991 the volume of 534 pages on the Distribution of localities in Transylvania by nationality (mother tongue) (1850-1941), followed by those on the Distribution of the population of the localities of Upper Northern Hungary (Felvidék) by nationality (mother tongue) (18801941), on 656 pages, and on Nationality (mother tongue) data of localities of the Subcarpathia (18801941), on 263 pages. As a continuation of this series, was published a volume presenting the ethnic composition of the localities of historical Southern Hungary on the basis of nationality and mother tongue data of former population censuses. While compiling that volume, there were other processing tabulations and data sources emerging on religion data, too. Given our intention to publish a series on this topic, we took advantage of this occasion to compile data on religion. Similar data had already been published, but not in the aggregation and details presented in this volume. The volumes containing data on religion in the frame of former research were the following ones: - 1949 population census: data on religion by localities (published in 1995) - 1949 population census: percentage distribution of data on religion (published in 1996) - Data on religion ofthe localities of Hungary (1880-1949) (published in 1997). As far as the present volume on the data on religion of the historical Southern Hungary is concerned, this concept goes back to the late 19th century. This was the area of the southern „Borders", which had to become again an inhabited region owing to organized and spontaneous resettlements after having been devastated by the Turks. 7
