At the second session of the third section Károly Manherz, President of the Federation of Germans in Hungary, et al. dealt with the numbers, composition and régiónál settlement of Germans and Yugoslav minorities in Hungary. Problems relating to the Germans were treated by György Zielbauer, Professor at the Dániel Berzsenyi College of Teachers /Szombathely/, himself a victim of the deportation of Germans from this country. Subsequently, the problems relating to the Serb population in Hungary, their settlement regions and the present position of their decreased numbers, were treated by a lecture. The Germán questions, as minority problems in Hungary, were elaborated by Géza Hambuch and by Holger Fischer, the former being Secretary General of the Federation of Germans in Hungary, the latter being director of the Hungarological Institute in Hamburg. Chaired by János Báthory, Deputy President of the Office of the National and Ethnic Minorities, the subsequent session of the third section discussed the questions relating to the number and demographic indicators of Romanies, Slovaks and Roumanians in Hungary, Anna Gyivicsán, Assistant Professor at the Loránd Eötvös University, dealt with the Slovaks, George Petrusan, President of the Federation of Roumanians in Hungary spoke about Roumanians in Hungary; the problems relating to the Gipsies were treated by István Hoóz, Professor and Head of Department of the Janus Pannonius University. Mrs. László Csobai, museologist /Békéscsaba/ of the Directorate of Museums of Békés County; János Szántó, researcher of the Association for Informatics in Social Science contributed to the debate; the former spoke about the Roumanians, while the latter dealt with the Slovak minority in Hungary. The members of the plenary session of the conference were: Werner Haug, President of the Population Commission of the Council of Europe, András Klinger, Deputy President of the Central Statistical Office, József Kovacsics, retired Head of the Statistical Department of the Loránd Eötvös University, János Báthory, Deputy President of the Office of the National and Ethnic Minorities, László Sebők, researcher at the Central European Research Institute. In his concluding address György Vukovich, President of the Central Statistical Office, stated, that the lectures as well as the discussions contributed to the further development and uniformity of nationality statistics. The Conference alsó contributed to the creation of successful nationality policies, the prerequisites of which are efficient nationality statistics. Concluding the Conference Albert Egyed, Counsellor of the Office of Nationality and Ethnic Minorities, offered the resolutions adopted by the representatives of the statistical offices about the census of nationalities. 352
