17. századi, gazdagon díszített női körgallér restaurálása
Műtárgyvédelem 37-38 fabric interwoven with silver threads is bordered by silver and gilt-silver threaded bobbin lace and braid made from silver and gilt-silver rosettes with pearls. The cape is lined with three different fabrics: a plain taffeta, a silk with a tiny pattern; and an ornamental one with gilt-silver threads. Before the conservation the cape had turned uniformly brown; the fabrics were soiled, incomplete, slightly mouldy, tattered, extremely brittle, and deformed. The bare silver surfaces and the double-sided gilt-silver strips were also corroded. The silk core of metal threads was dry, brittle, and tattered. The weft threads fastening the metal thread have been torn in many parts, so the wires were no longer fixed on the surface of the fabric. However, because the cape was significantly degraded by mould and soiling, it had to be disassembled to individual layers which were handled separately. Solid contamination, loosely attached to the surfaces, was removed by a micro vacuum cleaner, using low power. The ground fabric of the cape was cleaned by swabbing with distilled water. Loosened dirt was blotted with a sponge and paper wadding. Fragments of the ornamental lining were placed on a wooden-framed mesh and sprayed with distilled water. The treatment was repeated more than once to improve effectiveness. Polluted water remaining on the surface was blotted with acid-free paper. The plain taffeta linings were cleaned in a wash-bath with distilled water. The fabrics were placed on support cloths and were conserved with individual stitches; to avoid damage to the fragile textile, loose metal threads were fastened on ground material using laid coutching stitches. Fabrics were covered with silk crepeline using running stitches, following the fragment contours. Incomplete cloth bands under the braids were given cotton support fabric and finally the separate parts were reassembled. A szerzők címe/'Authors’ address: E.
