Néprajzi tárgytípusok kialakulásáról és restaurálásáról - Csiszár Teréz: Festett menyasszonyi láda restaurálása
CSISZÁR, Teréz Restoration of a painted bridal chest - Summary In the course of restoring the chest reported on in the article it was discovered that the object was covered by two paint layers applied successively and thus dating back to different times. The restorer and the museologist entrusted with the task decided to remove the upper, or more recent, layer only in part so that the visitor may perceive the changes in decorative styles and painting techniques on one and the same object. After briefly discussing the functions and the method of manufacture of the bridal chest the author presents the stages of restoration. Overpainting was removed by toluene and dimethyl formamide. The missing paint layer was replaced by gluey chalk and Gesso polymer ground. After drying and grinding retouch was carried out by hatching with tempera in water. The painted surfaces were coated by a 2-5% solution of Paraloid B 72 dissolved in toluene. The damaged fragments were completed by Araldit SV 427 epoxy resin (+ HY 427 1:1) except for major • losses in the beading of the top which were completed by the original wood - oak. Completions were dyed by walnut stain dissolved in alcohol. For gluing an Austrian product, Rakoll (polyvinyl acetate adhesive) was used. The metal hinges and locks of the chest were cleaned in Antireve followed by passivation in a 10% solution of phosphoric acid. The metal parts were coated by a protective layer of Szilorol M (a compound containing a metal passivating additive). The missing iron band was replaced by a new one made by an ironsmith.
