Az ácsolt láda restaurálás után DECSI, Gyula The restoration of a timbered chest - Summary The timbered chest made of beech-wood belonging to the Savaria Museum, got into the hands of the restorer in a very bad state. It was necessay to dismantling the chest completely for the sake of a complete restoration. After brushing the contamination of dust and mud, the object was cleaned in lukewarm water with Evamin (non-ionic surface active agent) . Strengthening of the wooden matter considerably chewn by insects was performed by a diluted solution of Arbocol H (a Hungarian product, karbamide-formaldehide resin). Completion of the object was realized in two ways: the right posterior leg, that was preserved in fragly, was substituted by new one made of beech- -wood, the two missing beards of the cover and the wooden pegs of the chest that were missing were completed from wood as well, while the minor defects of the surface were completed using a nitrocellulose-base liquid wood material. After the putting together of the object the substituted parts were coloured by walnut-stain, leaving a slight shade of difference between the original matter and the new parts. Finally, as a prevention against the deterioartion from insects and fungi, the chest was treated with Xylamon. List of figures 1. The timbered chest before restoration 2. The heavily decayed leg 118
