Restoration of the statue of St. Stephen from the roman catholic church of Tar - Summary In course of a general restoration of the roman catholic church in Tar with medieval details undertaken by the National Office for the Preservation of Monuments. The statue of St. Stephen, the restoration which is presented here, belongs to the side-altar. The object was made of linden-tree, and its whole surface was covered by a layer of oil-paint, with a colour different from that of the original one. The repainting was detached from the painted and gilded surface by using Kromofág (a solvent type paint remover with no alkalia and acids, a Hungarian product), while the areas of silver colouring and glazing were cleaned with a mixture of 50% buthyl- -amine, 1% Venice turpentine, 25% trichloro-ethylene and 24% turpentine. The polychrome layer became baggy, the fixing of which was performed by colette(a mixture of gelatine, oxengall, molasses and wateij. The wooden matter was conserved with a
