Régészeti jellegű tárgyak restaurálásáról - T. Bruder Katalin: Gondolatok egy őskori balta famaradványai kapcsán
T. BRÜDER, Katalin Meditations over the wooden remains of a prehistoric axe - Summary The author would like to focus on the deteriorant effects of the traditional way of "in situ" lifting realised by wax. This outdated procedure is rendering the work of the restorer more difficult in all cases, as the wax cannot be expelled from the object, especially in case of porosé, fragile organic materials or considerably corroded metal. The above statements are illustrated on the example of an ' object embedded in a strong gypsum plaster-cast saturated with wax. The restoration of the object was performed 15 years after the saturation with wax. With the help of an X-ray photo it was found first, that the axe was in a very bad state of preservation, thus the opening could be performed only with utmost care. The object was lifted from the plaster cast by warming up, while the detachment of the wax was tried in an exsiccator on 80 C°/ using ultrasonic treatment and benzene, still reaching no sufficient results. The metal cover of the wooden haft was of very weak state of preservation, its cleaning could be performed only after stergthening by Epoxy resin Araldit Rapid with Japanese tissue after the sticking of the fragments by Micro-Bond adhesive containing cyanide acrilate. The cleaning was performed by washing in 10% diluted sodiumhexamethaphosphate and mechanically, followed by passivation in benzetriazole of 3% diluted in alcohol and conservation in a 3% solution of Paraloid B 72 (3 parts acetone, 1 part toluene, 1 part xylol). Cleaning of the metal parts of better state of preservation was performed usint a 10% solution of sodiumhexamethaphosphate and 10% Selecton B2* Completion was made using the above mentioned Epoxy resin, the_surface of which was painted by Plextolic tempera. The most difficult problem faced was the conservation of the wooden part of the axe, from which the restorer did not 26
