36. Konstantinápoly, 1851 szeptember 18. Marsh amerikai miniszterrezidens Webster külügyi államtitkárnak Kossuthék hajóraszállásáról. Eredeti. Dispatch. No. 18. St. Dept. Washington. In pursuance of instruction from the Secretary of Navy, Comm. Morgan despatched the eteamfrigate Mississippi to this city for the purpose of receiving on board and transporting to the U. S. Mr. Kossuth and his companions who were about to be released from their detention in Turkey. The ship arrived here on the 30th of August and preparations were fortwith commenced for the accomplishment of the object of her visit. The Porte head already been officially informed of the purposes of the American govt, in sending her hither and the Legation had been informally notified that the Refugees would be liberated on the 1st of September. After the arrival of the Mississippi, an official notice was given by the Porte that Mr. Kossuth and his associates would be accompanied from Kutahia to Gemlik on the sea of Marmora by a Turkish escort, embarked on board a Govt, steamer and conveyed to the Dardanelles, where they should be put on board an American or English vessel as they should elect, for transportation to the U. S. or England. This information was communicated by the Legation to Capt. Long, commanding the Mississippi and I deemed it proper to send Mr. Homes second dragoman of the Legation to Gemlik, to meet the exiles and accompany them to the Dardanelles, both as a measure of courtesy to them and for reasons which will appear from his instructions, a copy of which is herewith communicated/ Mr. Homes performed the duty committed to him with entire success and Mr. Kossuth and his associates, fifty in number, including their families, were embarked on board the Mississippi at the Dardenelles on the 10th of Sept. and immediately sailed for the U.
