Its records flow from this year continuously, though there are also records before 1777, acquired by the first bishop, János SZILY, from the Győr and Veszprém diocese, as important documents on the new bishopric. The archival material totals 215 running metres. The oldest piece dates from 1565. The series Intimata (1777-1908) contains orders of the central feudal, later ministerial governmental organs to the bishopric in affairs of church government and education, being partly of national, partly of local significance. — The Acta Cancellariae Episcopalis Sabariensis (1777-1948) keeps the records of the episcopal bureau on church government. The subjects of this copious and numerically arranged archival group are the letters of the highest ecclesiastical organs (the pope, the archbishop of Esz­tergom), the diocesan synods, the cathedral, the ecclesiastical censorship, the abbeys and provostships of the diocese, the cathedral chapter, the deaneries and parishes (church, prebend, cemetery, patronage), the instruction and personal affairs of the clergy (nominations, transfers, releases, disciplinary matters, pensions, aids, deceases), orders of monks and nuns and their institutions, religious life (divine service, sacraments, liturgical books, church music, special Hungarian ecclesiastical feasts, shrines, spiritual exercises, pilgrimages, missions, religious associations), the property of the church, the Catholic press, church art, etc. There are useful registers and indices to the records. — The Visitationes Canonicae embrace the records of canonical visitations of 1698, 1713, 1754 (these are records taken over from the prede-
