A Szombathelyi Püspökség Levéltára (Szombathely Episcopal Archives)
cessor dioceses), 1779, 1806, 1930 and 1837. — The collection of episcopal circulars (1825-1950) contains the mimeographic or printed circulars of the ordinaries or the capitular vicars of Szombathely. — A special historical value is attached to the 1896 conscription of the parish revenues of the diocese, made in order to establish the "congrua". The forms verified both by ecclesiastical and county authorities are arranged according to districts. — From 1854 to 1923 the records of cross, mass, etc. foundations were bound into separate volumes. — The Resolutio casuum (1789-1808) contains the answers of the active clergy to the questions of canon law, morals and pastoral duties, put by the Court Christian three times a year. — The Examina theologorum (1786-1853) is the collection of theological and pastoral studies of the inmates of the Szombathely seminary. The archives of the Court Christian (tribunal dioecesanum) are equally preserved here. Before the establishment of the diocese it worked as the court of the Vasvár collegiate chapter from 1753 and as an episcopal tribunal from 1777. From the records of the court (1753-1944) the affairs of dispensations (1856-1869) and clerical wills (1755-1868) were separated; similarly the papers of education between 1857 and 1870, as elementary schools were supervised by the court up to 1870. From the records of the organs of the diocesan control of Catholic elementary schools and kindergartens after 1878 the archives of the inspectorate of schools were formed in 1928, reaching up to 1948, the taking over of ecclesiastical schools. The research room is open from 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on weekdays. If more time is needed, the archives loans its records to Vas County Archives, where research is possible from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Dr. Peter BALAZS
