Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár (Haj dú-Bihar County Archives)

and economic life are the journals of the municipal committees and of the county sub-prefects of Bihar and Hajdu counties, the records of Debrecen city municipal committee, council and burgomaster. Of the Bihar county assembly journals and records the materials of the Rákóczi period (1704-1711) are missing. Nor do the journals of the Hajdu district start before 1713. In the archival groups of boroughs and parishes the former Hajdu boroughs: Hajdúböszörmény, Hajdudorog, Hajduhadház, Hajdúnánás, Hajdúszoboszló and Vámospércs, together with the villages of both counties left valuable records from the seventeenth century on. Those of Földes village start with 1537. Among the regional organs of specialized administration we mention the archival group of the Hajdúnánás Headquarters of State Police (1914-1944), furnishing valuable data to the history of the working class movement. The material of the Land Survey Inspectorate No. 12 (1850-1950) contains assessments and cadastral surveys on the financial situation of the settlements in Bihar and Hajdu counties. The records of the Debrecen Civil Engineering Board (1886-1948) illustrate the drainage and water conservancy in the counties of Bihar, Hajdu, Szabolcs and Szatmár. The archival group of the State Railways (MÁV) Debrecen Directorate (1890-1958) supplies data on the history of transport in the counties beyond the Tisza. The archival material of the Directorate ought to be taken into archival custody from 1930, since records later than this year are only extant in one of the subgroups. From the point of view of education the material of the Debrecen Chief Inspectorate of Schools (1884-1944) is remarkable for the counties Bihar, Hajdu, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Szabolcs and Szatmár. Among the regional organs of jurisdiction the study of the material of the Debrecen Table of Justice (1891-1944) and of the Debrecen Tribunal (18691950) is indispensable for political and economic history. The Table was the superior court of the Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Miskolc, Sátoraljaújhely, between 1938 and 1944 also of the Ungvár, Beregszász, Huszt and Máramarossziget tribunals. In the archival group of the Debrecen Tribunal the criminal cases and the material of the registry court are the most significant. The collection of the records of the socage (urbarial) courts (1856-1872) mirrors the establishment of bourgeois land property. Among the institutes and institutions the records of the Debrecen Economic Academy (1867-1945) illustrate higher agrarian instruction. Among the institutions of middle level education we mention the Debrecen Mihály
