Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár (Haj dú-Bihar County Archives)
Fazekas State Public School (1876-1947), the Debrecen Roman Catholic Piarist School (1851-1948), the Hajdúböszörmény Reformed Public School (1839-1948) and the Boys' Commercial Public School of the Debrecen Trade Society (1874-1948). The musical education is illustrated by the records of the Debrecen City School of Music (1853-1954). A large quantity of corporation records is preserved by the Archives. A certain branch of economic activity is shown by the papers of Debrecen guilds (1478-1872), the Debrecen Chamber of Trade and Industry (18501948), the Transtibiscan Agricultural Chamber (1922-1947) and the Drainage Societies (1848-1948). The records of the commonages and pasture societies from the end of the nineteenth century are very fragmentary. From the association papers the history of culture is illustrated by the material of the reading circles from the first half of the twentieth century. Alas, many of the association papers have been annihilated and research ought to be directed not only to their records, but also to those dealing with their official supervision. As to Debrecen, this material of the city is found among the collections. Turning to the material of economic enterprises, the papers of the textile merchant firm Orbán Kis are remarkable (1774-1850), containing a part of the account books. The papers of the book merchant firm Telegdi Kovács illustrate the commercial connections of this merchant family all over the Transtibiscan region. The Debrecen United Brushware Fabric (1895-1948) is notable for its international relations and data on the workers' movement. The records of the Printing House of the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District and of Debrecen City (1794-1948) help research in the history of printing and books, those of the common directorate of the Debrecen Local Railways Corp. and of the Nyirbátor Local Railways (HÉV) (1883-1950) illustrate the history of transport. The records of the banks, savings banks and credit associations in the county are fragmentary. Of the records of ecclesiastical organs those of the Debrecen Convent of the Pious Fathers (1693-1950) deserve mention. Family papers are very scanty. We have none of the great landowning families, while the material of the nobilitary and bourgeois families (from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries) is very fragmentary. As to the material of private persons research may be interested in the correspondence of Ádám MÁRTON, reporting on the events of the 18341835 diet in individual tone and judgments. The bequest of the chief archivist Endre CSOBÁN (1850-1946) contains studies on city history and archival science.
