According to the entry in Budapest History Museum’s collection of copies, it is a fragment of Andrew II’s ducal equestrian seal. Andrew II(1205-1235) First great seal 1205-1213 diam: 106 mm The composition of the figure, including the position of the arms, and the elements, types and arrangement of the costume match the front of King Emet ic’s gold bull. The legitimacy formula in the inner line of the legend takes as its direct model the legend on the front of Emeric’s gold bulla. The construction of the throne, however, differs from the faldistorium seal images of twelfth-century Hungarian kings and from the splendid throne edifice of Emeric’s gold seal. Front then until the end of the thirteenth century, the throne bench became a characteristic feature on Árpád kings’ seals. 167
