Úgy látszik, a hirdetés túl rö­vidre sikerült — elfelejtették például közölni, hogy legalább középiskolai végzettségű lányo­kat várnak. Még analfabéta lá­nyok is jelentkeztek. Az 1066 jelentkezőből végül is 63 bizonyuk alkalmasnak, úk mindjárt megkapták a csinos egyenruhát (rövid szoknya, vilá­gos ingblúz vállappal és karjel­­véonyel, széles öv pisztolytáská­val), majd az első parancsot: „Két hónapjuk van arra, hogy jó rendőrnőkké váljanak. A siker hez elegendő, ha pontosan be­tartják a szolgálati szabályzatot.” A szabályzat részleteiről a rendőrián v-nöyendékck másnap szereztek tudomást: ébresztő reg­gel 6-kor, torna és futógyakorla­tok fél 7-től fél 9-ig, elméleti órát 1-ig, ébéd fél 2-kor, pihenés 3-ig, lőgyakoriat 3—6-ig, eaentii vül hetenként háromszor még este 9-től 11-ig is, hogy megtanul ják a céliövést mesterséges fény­nél. A kéthónapos tanfolyam után a chicagói rendőrfőnök szemlét tartott a 63 újdonsült rendőrlány fölött: A fő vizsgatétel: céllövés egy férfit ábrázoló mozgó fatáb la, amelyen fehér kör jelképezte a szivét. Az eredmény nagyszerű volt. Minden golyó legalábbis érintette a fehér kört. „Tudja, mi a siker titka?” — magyarázta a kiképző tiszt. — A nők sokkal tanulékonyabbak a férfiaknál, mert nem hiszik ma­gukról eleve azt, hogy dk úgyis eltalálnak 30 méterről egy pénz­darabot. Figyelnek, próbálkoz­nak, és fánadhatatlanok. Egy el­bizakodott férfiból olykor évek alatt sem lehet jó lövészt nevel­ni, egy félénk nőnek ' pedig két hónap is elég.” És ezenkívül milyen előnyeik vannak még a rendőrnőiknek a férfiakhoz képest? Egyik parancs nokuk így felel: „A nők ügye­sebben álcázzák magukat. A fér­fi rendőröknek sokszor az arcuk­ra van Írva a foglalkozásúik, a nőknek soha.
