Mihai Suciu: Rezistenţa prin credinţă a voşlobenilor
Marisia XXXVII Rezistenta prin credintä a vo§lobenilor Mihai SUCIlP The resistance through faith of the Vo§lobeni inhabitants Summary Vo§lobeni is the toponym of the residence village in the commune named the same. It designates an ancient settlement located in the South-East of the Giurgeu Basin, documentary attested in 1630. A village that has preserved its ethnicity, not without being a thorn for an arrogant empire - the Habsburg Empire (the Austro-Hungarian Empire after 1867), being located on the Eastern border of these entities shattered by history. Over time, the Romanians in the area were assimilated, all their settlements being Magyarized, except for Vo§lobeni, the beating heart of the Romanian people in the area, an island in the middle of a Székely ocean, at the heart of today's Romania. The temptations and means of coercion were rejected. Yet not "the miracle" referred to by certain analysts of the phenomenon, justifies the resistance, the poetry and the metaphor not being efficacious. By analyzing the causality, the favorable factors can be synthesized into two components: geographical environment - the proximity to Moldova - and the human factor: mountaineers hardened in a fairytale, but tough, inhospitable living environment. Adding the unshakeable faith in God and in nation, whose flame the author's ancestors have also burn with dignity and dedication, the lineage of priests named Ciobotariu, who covered almost the entire 19th century virtually fighting for the conservation of the nation, the language, and the faith. The study "scans" the prominent moments of active resistance which had been neither scarce, nor precisely easy throughout time, demanding inclusively offerings of the lives of the people who had stepped forward onto the barricades of the fight against denationalization.
