Putting into Value the Cultural Patrimony of the “Cri§an” and “Vlaicu Barna” Memorial Houses from the Cri§an Village (Hunedoara County)

(Summary)

The Cri§an village, situated on the right side of the Cri§ul Alb, in the Brad Depression from Zarand, has a rich history, connected with Gheorghe Cri§an, a leader of the peasants’ up rising from 1784.

The village и/as attested for the first time in the historical documents from 1439, when it held the name “Vaca”. Here, Gheorghe Cri§an was born, the third capitan of the Romanian peasants’ uprising, along with Horea and Clo§ca.

At the entrance in the village, on the left side of the road, there are the ruins of the old monastery from “Vaca”, founded at the beginning of the XVIIth century and reactivated in 1992 by the Diocese of Arad and Hunedoara.

In the village, two remarkable personalities of the Romanian science and culture, the poet and writer Vlaicu Barna (1913-1999), and the geologist Viorel Brana (1907- 1998).

For honoring the memory of Cri§an and the fighters from Zarand, who died in the uprising from 1784, the memorial house was established in 1979. In the same year, for the 25th years anniversary, the exhibition was renewed, putting into value the existing cultural and museum patrimony, as well as the archival material.

After the death of the poet Vlaicu Barna, the house from Cri§an was turned into a memorial house. The original furniture from between the wars, the writer’s desk, family pictures, his etnographic collection were put into value.

We only hope that, after a proper room is organized in the Cri§an monastery, the religious patrimony from various destroyed churches from Zarand will be also put in value. In the Brana house, as well, we hope to organize an exhibit with personal objects pertaining to the famous geologist.

Tn depresiunea Bradului, din Tara Zarandului, pe maiul drept al Cri§ului Alb, se aflá satui Cri§an, cu о bogatä istorie, ce poartä numele lui Gheorghe Cri§an, conducätor al räscoalei din 1784, aläturi de Horea §i Clo§ca1. Satui Cri§an a fost amintit pentru prima datä, Tn documentele medievale, Tn anul 14391 2, sub numele Vaca. ín anul 1525, satui fäcea parte din marele domeniu al cetätii §iria3, de care apartine pänä la desfiintarea sa, Tn anul 1613.
