6. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Meeting of the Eastern Classis March 2, 2003 In accordance with the resolution of the General Assembly of the Synod, held in November 2002, to unite the two Classis formerly known as the Eastern Classis and New York Classis. With this in mind, upon the instruction the Very Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan, Dean of the Eastern Classis, the Rt. Rev. Stefan M. Torok, Ecclesiastical Secretary of the Classis sent out a letter of invitation to all the congrega­tions inviting to the meeting of the Eastern Classis to be held on March 2, 2003 at the New Brunswick, New Jer­sey, Hungarian Reformed Church. Since this year was also election year in the Clas­sis, a voting ballot was included in the letter of invitation requesting all congregations to cast their votes in electing a totally new leadership of the now united Classis to be mailed to the Ecclesiastical Secretary by March 17th of this year. The meeting of the new United Classis known as the Eastern Classis was held on Sunday, March 2, 2003 beginning with a 2:30 p.m. registration and meeting to be­gin at 3:00 p.m. The host pastor, the Rev. Barnabas Roczey con­ducted the opening devotions. A word of welcome was extended to all in atten­dance by the presiding Dean, Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan. In behalf of the host congregation, Mr. John Samok, Chief Elder of the congregation extended a warm welcome to everyone.An Agenda prepared for this meeting was ac­cepted by all in attendance. A roll call was taken, which indicated the follow­ing official members in attendance. Dean Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan, Mr. Balint Balogh Chief Elder of the Classis. Rev. Stefan M. Torok and Miss Priscilla Hunyady secre­taries. Mr. Andrew C. Lovász, Classis treasurer. Comp­troller of the Classis, Mr. Joseph Varga was absent. Com­missioners to the General Assembly- Rev. Ambrus Batiz and Mr. Robert Zambo were also present. Members of the Judicial Commission from the former Eastern Classis- Rev. Barnabas Roczey, Rev. Ambrus Batiz and Rev. László Ujj- Ecclesiastical were also present. None of the lay members of the judicial commission were present. In accordance of the By-Laws and Constitution of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America official representation was also given to the pastors and one lay rep­resentative of each congrega­tion. Official voting delegates included the following: Bethle­hem, Pa. Pastor, Rev. Ronald Hari was absent, lay represen­tative Mr. Balint Balogh was present. Carteret, N.J. Pastor, Rev. Csilla Lucskay was pre­sent, no official lay representa­tive. Cliffside, N.J. Mr. Stephen Szabó, Lay Preacher, and Mrs. Eva Szabó as official representative. Linden, N.J. Pastor, the Rev. Ambrus Batiz and Mr. Imre Toth, Chief Elder. Miami, Florida - no of­ficial representatives were in attendance. New Brunswick, N.J., Pastor, the Rev. Barnabas Roczey and Mr. Steven Dorko, Vice-Chief Elder. New York, N.Y. Mr. László B. Vanyi, Chief Elder. Perth Amboy, N.J. Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Attila Kocsis and Mrs. Priscilla Jenkins, secretary of the Church Council. Peekskill, N.Y. Pastor, Rt. Rev. Alex­ander Forro, who also represented the Roseton, N.Y. con­gregation as supply pastor. Roebling, N.J. no official rep­resentatives were present. Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Pastor, the Rt. Rev. Alexander Forro. Staten Island, N.Y. Supply pas­tor, the Rev. Csilla Lucskay and Mrs. Linda Hauck, Chief Elder. Trenton, N.J. Pastor, the Rev. László Ujj and Mr. John Molnár Chief Elder. Warrenville, CT. supply pastor, the Rev. Leslie E. Martin. Washington, D.C. Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan. A quorum was established and Dean, the Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan declared the meeting fully constituted. The Assembly also accepted all members of the congregations present as corresponding members of the assembly with full participation in discussions but with no voting rights. Rt. Rev. Alexander Forro, bishop emeritus installs the Rev. Barnabas Roczey as dean of the Eastern Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America.
