Alexander Forro, Bishop Emeritus, Mr. Stephen Szabó, Chief Elder Emeritus in behalf of the Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. Ecclesiastical Secretary, Rev. Torok, read the letter of greetings from the newly elected Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Andor Demeter and Mr. Anthony C. Beke Chief Elder of the Synod expressing God’s richest blessings on the entire assembly. In behalf of the Calvin Synod of the United Church of Christ by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, Bishop Emeritus. In behalf of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America by the Rt. Rev.Stefan M. Torok, President/ CEO. Greetings were also extended in behalf of the American Hungarian Foundation Prof.August Molnár, President. The assembly continued with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting held on March 3, 2002 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey which was accepted with some corrections. The highlight of every meeting of the classis centers around the report of the Dean. We are happy to give a highlight of the Dean’s report to the readers of the Magyar Egyház in this issue. The Chief Elder’s report was presented by Mr. Balint Balogh. The assembly expressed thanks and appreciation to both the Dean and Chief Elder for their continued long service of the Classis. Treasurer’s report was offered by Mr. Andrew C. Lovász, treasurer. The Treasurer’s report was moved to the Financial Committee for evaluation and examination. Dean Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan appointed the following committees: Recommendation Committee: chaired by the Rev. Barnabas Roczey, members included the Rev. Dr. Attila Kocsis, Mr. Frank Király, Mrs. Priscilla Jenkins and Mrs. Linda Hauck. Financial Committee: chaired by the Rev. Csilla Lucskay, members included the Rev. László Ujj, Mr. Steven Dorko, Mr. Stephen Szabó. Nominating Committee: chaired by the Rt. Rev. Stefan M. Torok, members included the Rt. Rev. Alexander Forro, Mr. Robert Zambo, and Mr. John Molnár. Upon the completion of the committee’s work the meeting resumed. The first committee to report was the Recommendations Committee. The recommendations that were presented and unanimously accepted by the Assembly will be mailed to each congregations of the Classis in the very near future. The Financial Committee after examining the books found them in order and recommended the acceptance of the report of the Treasurer. The committee also made recommendations as to the disbursements of monies to worthwhile organizations and charities. In behalf of the Nominating Committee - the Rt. Rev. Stefan M. Torok informed the assembly of the results of the new election: The Classis congregations unanimously elected the Rev. Barnabas Roczey as Dean of the Eastern Classis from the New Brunswick, Magyar Reformed Church for the next four years. The Classis congregations also unanimously elected Mr. Frank Király from the Trenton, Hungarian Reformed Church as Chief Elder of the Classis. The congregations also unanimously elected the following members to service as Judicial Commission members of the Classis for the next four years through the ballots received: The Rt. Rev. Alexander Forro, the Rev. Ambrus Batiz and the Rev. László Lukacsi as ecclesiastical members, Mr. Imre Toth, Mr. Robert Zambo and Mr. László B. Vanyi as lay representatives. The Nominating Committee further nominated the following individuals to service the following offices to be elected by the assembly: The Rev. László Ujj as ecclesiastical secretary and Miss Priscilla Hunyady as lay secretary. Mr. Andrew C. Lovász as Classis treasurer. All nominated individuals were elected with a unanimous ballot. The Assembly also unanimously decided to grant Honorary titles to all retiring officers. The Very Rev.Dr. Imre Bertalan, Dean Emeritus Since the beginning of the meeting everyone was aware that at the conclusion of the meeting all elected officers will take their oath of office during a special Church Service and invited guests were arriving to the church. The assembly was officially declared closed and everyone was invited to attend the Installation Service. The final act of the assembly was to set the date and time for the next assembly meeting. An invitation was extended to hold the meeting in 2004 in Perth Amboy, N.J. It is with great anticipation that we the members of the congregations look forward to the service and leadership of all newly elected officers of the Classis.
