6. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ GIVE US THIS DAY I have written many articles with the intent to inform, entertain, enrich and inspire. I choose the title “GIVE US THIS DAY” to tell you of a single day of my life on this earth. Each morning when I awaken I “Thank God” that I am still alive. My mind is swimming with thoughts as to how to spend the day in a fruitful way in which I will not waste any part of in idling my time away. As you well know my main purpose in life is to communicate in loving ways with my fellow humans. My tool is writing articles to feed you my thoughts and feelings. I am not a speech maker, but I try to express myself in preserving on paper my God given purpose on this Earth. I often question why am I here? It is not for me to say, God’s purpose is a mystery and I am sure he knows how to fit us into the mainstream. We all belong to each other, to share our talents and labor with each other. We are connected. As noon approaches I take time to feed my body because it needs to be nourished for good health. I usually like to go out to eat because I love being with people. Although most of them are strangers they put a glitter in my heart. I find that most of them are friendly only because you can extend your friendship to them. It really takes the place of loneliness in ones life. Our very existence has reaffirmed my own beliefs about a higher power as nothing else could. It has also given me another opportunity to figure out just where I stand with my own beliefs about a higher power. I believe! You are never too old to educate yourself in wholesome activities. Be fruitful - “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me we can do nothing.” John 15:1-5. Whatever the need of the moment, the answer is to be found in the Scripture, if we take the time to search for it. Whatever we’re feeling, whatever we’re hoping - the Bible has something to say to us. You have the ability to conquer all your fears to enrich yourself with positive thinking. Believe me, it works! We are confronted with many challenges in life. We are created to withstand any pressures that may confront us. We are born with a will, the mental faculty by which one chooses or decides upon a course of action. It’s all in a day’s work. As the day progresses, time is marching on. Twilight time has arrived, still full of pep and energy. Remember, time is precious. Your vitality has not yet disappeared. There is still time to plan for the next day, next week or for the rest of your life with the help of your God. Even at the end, life is precious. Its termination should not be encouraged. It is not our decision, it is God’s time to take us into his Kingdom Evening has finally arrived. It is time to put our bodies to rest. It is time for prayer. Thanking God for this day. In peace, O God, I shut my eyes. In peace again, I hope to rise. While I take my nightly rest, Be with those I love the best. Guide me in thy Holy way. Make me better every day. Amen. Pearl Hatten REFORMED CHURCH NEWS Since the Balkan war started, the American radio and TV stations bring stories about Yugoslavia almost every day. One of the places mentioned is Novi Sad (Újvidék). Újvidék was the Hungarian name of the town before Yugoslavia took it over from Hungary after World War I. Voivodina (Vajdasag) is situated in the northern region of Yugoslavia, where 380,000 Hungarianspeaking people still live. 40,000 of them are members of the reformed churches. The people of our churches in Voivodina (Vajdasag) afflicted by poverty, donated clothing and 17 tons of foodstock to Sub-Carpathia. During the last eight years, there was hardly an example in Yugoslavia of sending humanitarian aid to foreign countries. Now the Hungarian Reformed Church members showed us an example: even when you are poor, you can still help others. The organizer was the Ecumenical Charity Service of Novi Sad (Újvidék), headed by Karoly Beres. FOR THE RECORD The representatives of the Mercedes-Benz Corporation donated a “minivan” to the Mission of the Blind of the Reformed Church on Hungary. All of the leaders and members of the Mission were present, led by their pastor. On behalf of the Daimler Chrysler Corporation, Matthias Kleinert and Helmut Knittel greeted the Hungarian Mission of the Blind. In the name of the Synod, Dr. Gusztáv Bolcskei, bishop, expressed thanks. Anikó Lévai, the wife of Hungary’s Prime Minister, emphasized the significance of helping people as an outstanding example, given by the Mercedes-Benz Corporation. BRIEF NEWS Bela A. Kiss, editor of the “Kálvinista Szemle” (Calvinist Review) reports: The Slovakian Ministry of Education gave permission to establish the first Hungarian grammar school in Slovakia. The school will commence its operation with the first year in Rimaszombat (Rimavska Sobota).
