MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11. oldal — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — Church Council — Allen Park, Mich. — 1985 ALLEN PARK, Ml The 20th anniversary of building our present church in Allen Park was celebrated on Sunday, September 15th, during the special divine worship service The Rev. Imre Bertalan, president of the Hungarian Reformed Federation from Washington, D.C. was the guest speaker. The anniversary dinner was attended by 500 people: many local clergymen, civic leaders and Dr. and Mrs. Kalman Ujszaszy from Sárospatak, Hungary. The Church Workers Conference for the Lakeside and Michigan area churches was held on Sunday, September 29th in our church. The keynote speaker was the Very Rev. Aaron Elek, Dean, pastor of the Cleveland, Ohio West Side Church, whose theme was “PRIORITIES IN OUR CHURCHES TODAY!” English and Hungarian group discussion followed, reports were given by the outgoing officers. After the delicious dinner prepared by the Ladies Aid Society, served by the Martha Circle, the new officers were elected: President Julius Pongracz (Lorain, Ohio), vice president Ms. Rebecca Kaplar (Allen Park), Ernest Szaniszlo, secretary (Fairport Harbor, Ohio), Anna Souto (Allen Park). The banner of best attendance was awarded to the Cleveland West Side church. (45 people came by bus.) The Crop Walk project of the Church World Service on Sunday, September 29th in our city was organized by the Council of Churches to raise funds for the victims of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, etc. David Ambrus and Remo Mei were the co-chairpersons. All who signed up (440 people) completed the 10 mile walk, one made it in a wheelchair, the oldest person was 38 years old. The Night in Budapest sponsored by the Golden Circle Club and the Dorcas Guild on Saturday, October 5th was enjoyed by many guests who came from far and near. At the installation of the Rev. George Nagy, pastor of the Windsor, Ontario church on Sunday, October 6th, a large delegation represented our congregation: Edmund Jr. Chr. Youth F., Allen Park, 1985 Vig, chief elder extended greetings to pastor and congregation. October was observed as LOYALTY MONTH with emphasis on faithful church attendance: first Sunday was Worldwide Communion Sunday, the second: Guest, the third: Family and the fourth Reformation Sunday. The Ladies Aid fall bazaar and bake sale on October 7-8th and 14-18th has gained our ladies fame and recognition. Thanks to all who in anyway helped. On Sunday, October 13th, the Chinese Auction by the Dorcas Guild was enjoyed by all, who came and spent a pleasant Sunday afternoon of fellowship with us. Thanks and appreciation to everyone. November 2nd, Saturday is the date of our Grape Festival.
