12. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Sr. Chr. Youth F., Allen Park CARTERET, NJ Summer this year seemed to pass so fast, maybe because the activities did not stop in our church. The Toth Estate Sale finally is over, with a week in sales from the basement and the truckload of goods were sold in a week long sale. The proceeds exceed $13,000 thanks to Marge and Tony DeStefano, and the very dedicated members of our Lorantffy Womens Guild and that of the Mens Club. As a last year’s project of the Guild, the entrance to the basement of the church was closed in by a structure of brick and glass that blends in beautifully with the church, and solves the problem of flooding at the bottom of the stairs, with an expense of $2,000. The area where the fir tree was is refinished with top soil and new grass. The chime system in the tower is working again, after renewing the timer. The biggest undertaking in renovation is the renewal of the heating system in the Manse, from the old bulky radiators to a new baseboard heating system, with three different zoning on the different levels of the building, with an expense of close to $6.000. The Mens Club held a fundraising, which culminated in a successful dinner-dance. The Guild started the fall season with participating in the Carteret International Festival, selling over a 1,000 stuffed cabbage to the delight of all the people present. They also had a Chinese Auction on the 29th of Sept., and a Flea Market in October. Our Annual Dinner-Dance will be held on October 19, we hope many will attend. Our Pastor, the Rev. Gabor Nitsch attended the 75th Anniversary Hungarian Scout Jamboree in Fillmore, NY, where he studied for 10 days in order to become an officer of the Hungarian Scout Association. He was officially sponsored by The Hungarian Reformed Church in America, The Calvin Synod and The Hungarian Reformed Federation in America as the Protestant Chaplain of the camp. There were almost 900 young Hungarian children attending, from Australia, South America, Western Europe and the US and Canada. I might add, the Hungarian Scouting is the only youth oriented organization which is capabale to bring together and educate this many youth, in Hungarian, of their heritage, customs, history and literature. The Pastors whole family attended this camp. After the Scout Jamboree he attended the Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Ministerial Association in Ligonier, PA. On this meeting a historic event took place, by Father Irányi who was recently appointed head of all the Hungarian Roman Catholics in the free world, by the Pope himself. His presence was a gesture of love and brotherhood with the Protestant colleagues, a further step towards ecumenical friendship. Our Sunday School started in September, the new Superintendent is Janet Hasek and her assistant Jackie Kijula. Unfortunately the younger families with children tend to move out from this area, therefore, the number of children is decreasing. We hope and pray that there may be children who will continue the church life of our ancestors. Confirmation classes will start in the beginning of October. The Christmas Bazaar of the Womens Guild will be held on November 30th, the ladies prepare for this event from the beginning of the year, only hand-made items will be sold. The Mens Club will raffle off Merchandise Certificates on this event. Occasions for Holy Communion were in August for New Bread. October for World Wide Communion, and there will be a Thanksgiving-New Wine Communion on November 24th. The same afternoon at 4:00 p.m. our Pastor will give the sermon on the ecumenical Thanksgiving service of the Carteret Ministerial Association, where all the local churches will participate, in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Thanks to Dr. Andrew Harsanyi and John Nemish who helped with the services during our Pastors vacation. BAPTISMS: Brittani Alexandra, daughter of Sheree Szilagyi on July 28th; Kate Elizabeth, daughter of Gail Comba and Michael Mesavitz on Sept. 15th; Jesseca Maria, daughter of Kelly Bajkowski and Richard Smith on Sept. 15th. May God bless the parents with wisdom and faith to bring up their children in a good Christian manner. FUNERALS: Robert Legény (46), July 2nd; John Adam (72), Aug. 3rd; Marion Morris (79), Sept. 9th. May they rest in peace. McKeesport, pa The International Village held on August 20, 21, and 22, 1985 has been one of the best, a most successful one. Our Ladies worked twice a week all Summer long to be ready for this 25th Ethnic Food Festival which was held again in the Park at the front of our Church. During the last three days about a 100 people, members and friends, young and old worked for the success. Beside the financial gain we experienced fellowship and the blessing of cooperation among people of God. Mrs. Fedor who is usually the most active in the work has been hospitalized during the Village. It is certain that she prayed while others worked like in Bethany. The work is going on for months to be ready for the September 22, celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the forming of our Denomination of the Free Magyar Reformed Church. Lajos Koos our chief elder at that time
