Our choir caroling group during the Christmas holiday season was well received in Nursing Care Centers. Special thanks to the members for their Christmas holiday music at our church services. The Christmas program of the Sunday School children was enjoyed by all who attended; the children received gifts from the various organizations: Ladies Aid Society, Dorcas Guild, Men’s Club. The traditional New Year’s Eve dinner was a huge success, although several other ehurches and cultural organizations had similar get-togethers. The first “hurka-kolbasz” sale of the year was on January 26th and 27th by the Men’s Club. The following annual “pork-dinner” on January 28th was an overwhelming success: folk dance demonstrations, gypsy orchestra, etc. supplied the entertainment for over 400 guests. A tour of the New England States is being organized by the Dorcas Guild in September. Contact Mrs. Helen Hermann, President, or Mrs. Margaret Abraham. BETHLEHEM, PA 41 members received holy communion at Christmas time. 4 sick mebers also received holy communion. The holy elements were donated by Mrs. Julia Kovács and Mr. and Mrs. James Kovary. The consistory prepared the register of the voting members. It was forwarded to the Dean’s office for ratification. On January 29th, 1984, we held our Annual Congregational meeting where Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder, Mr. Steve Toth treasurer, Mrs. John Fabian president of the Ladies Guild, and the minister presented the yearly reports to the congregation. Mr. István Turoczy recording secretary read the minutes of the last congregational meeting. At the Annual Meeting the minister presented his resignation from his position effective September 30th, 1984, when he, after 50 years of service in the ministry, will retire. On March 11th we will have Holy Communion for Lent. The Holy elements will be donated by Mrs. Rilla M. Erdie. In the year 1983 we had one baptism, one wedding and one funeral. Income for 1983: $36,585.54. Expenses for 1983: $32,- 880.64. A resolution was made that the year 1984 will be the year of the renovation of our buildings. Our Annual Consistory and Congregational Dinner will be held the last Sunday in February. Two members of our church are in Nursing Homes: Mrs. Gyula Aszli and Mrs. Irene Kieffer. May God’s blessings be upon them! On February 7th we will have the consistory meeting and visitation of our dean the Very Rev. Stefan Torok. FUNERAL: On January 20th, 1984 we buried Mrs. Gyula Aszli who was 69 years old, in the Hellertown Cemetery. Her son Zoltán Kovács and her husband Gyula Aszli are mourning. May God give consolation to them. We extend our deepest sympathy to the president of our Ladies Aid Mrs. John Fabian who lost her son John at the age of 57 on January 18th, 1984. May God give consolation to the family. CARTERET, NJ On Dec. 18 we held the Sunday School’s Christmas Service, led by the children, with readings and recitals by the different classes, and forming the nativity scene. This Christmas we were blessed again with a live baby in the manger scene, in the person of Jennifer Lee Ruskowski. Surrounding the baby, the little ones dressed up as angels. It always makes this event unforgettable. After the service, in the Bethlen Hall, breakfast was prepared for the children by the Men’s Club, and we were entertained by a 13 year old, young magician Kenneth Kovács with an excellent show. With eight young people we went out caroling two nights, to the enjoyment of all. Our Pastor had the honor of marrying Rev. Stefan Török to Cynthia Banyacski on the 24th of Dec. in the morning, in Perth Amboy with a full church of well wishers. The Candleligh tService was a special event this year, being a musical one, with Ronald Lukacs singing and playing the guitar, Helen Dodge singing along with William Schurr our organist and also the Pastor.
