Do-It-Yourself Church Built In Pozsony Some 200,000 man-hours went into the construction of a new churchbuilding of the Church of the Brethren (Congregational), opened here recently. The work, which took about two years to complete, was carried out entirely by volunteer labour involving almost all members of the 180-strong Modlitebna congregation, as well as volunteers from the three neighbouring congregations in Pozsony. Age range of the volunteers was from 10 year-olds to men and women over 70. Complicated negotiations with government authorities preceded the start of the project for which financial support was received from sources within Czechoslovakia as well as abroad. The worship area which seats about 350 people is part of a larger complex, housing district administrative offices of the denomination, meeting rooms and two apartment units. The Church of the Brethren traces its origin to a revival movement in Eastern Bohemia in the eighteen sixties. Until 1967 the Church was known as the Unity of Czech Brethren, but due to increasing numbers of Slovaks and Poles entering into membership, the name was changed to Church of the Brethren. The 10,000-strong denomination is spread over 31 congregations and 184 preaching stations. wwrmjra*vww*rvjrirjrsrjnrwv*a*jnrjrjrira»»Mwww»m»mwm NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO New officers of our Marta Circle: Honorary President Mrs. Elizabeth Domotor, President Mrs. Mary Nagy, Vice President Mrs. Alex Sivo, Treasurer Mrs. Emma Druga, Secretary Mrs. John Tokár, Auditors: Elizabeth Bajusz, Mrs. Terecia Banda, Mrs. Matthew Havassy.
