10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ A NEW EDITION of the Confessions of the Reformed, Church in Hungary, containing the Heidelberg Catechism and the Second Helvetic Confession, was published in Hungary at the end of 1965. The volume contains a history of the Heidelberg Catechism by Dr. Endre Toth and a theological appraisal of this confessional standard by the late John Victor. The new edition is in paperback format, permitting inexpensive circulation in the Church. THE NEWSPAPER SOVIET KIRGIZIA in the USSR reports that two women, Yelena Chernetskaya and Maria Braun, have been sentenced to five years’ deprivation of liberty for running a Baptist Sunday School. The two were members of an Evangelical Baptist group in Sokoluk village. The article accused the Sunday School of spiritually corrupting the children and causing them to reject membership in communist youth organizations. YOUTH NEWS EASTERN AREA YOUTH FEDERATION The next Quarterly Conference is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 in Trenton. “What Does the Church Say About Romance and Me?” will be the topic. YOUNGSTOWN The Youth Group was asked by the Yolanda Circle to serve at a dinner on February 20. It was to honor the newly elected officers of the church organizations. We were more than happy to lend a helping hand in making the dinner a success. The parents were thrilled because for a change their children were waiting on them. February 27th was our monthly recreation meeting. Our social chairman decided to go bowling. Thirteen members participated. We had a real nice time and some of the boys won free milkshakes from the girls (It was easy, thanks girls!). NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS BETHLEHEM Our Easter services were well attended. The elements of the Lord’s Supper were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Julius Kadar. The Children’s Choir sang two hymns. We had an Easter Party on Palm Sunday with film presentation and egg-hunt. Robert Csizma played the piano. Many of us (a bus load) attended the 45th Anniversary of the Senior Women’s Club at Perth Amboy, on April 17th. New members: Mr. Louis Greczy and family. His father who was visiting here for 10 months, returned to Hungary. Burial: Mrs. Steven Domyan, Sr., 83 years old, on March 26th. She was the mother of Mrs. J. Fabian, the president of our Women’s Guild. The 15th Anniversary of our congregation will be on November 13th with a mortgage-burning ceremony. CARTERET The number of Easter communicants was 316, 20 of them in their homes. Holy Thursday evening communion with the order of service printed in both languages was again well attended by the congregation. Total of the holiday offerings exceeded $2,000. Communion elements were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burton, William Chabena, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen F. Kovács, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Mako Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Papp. Baptism: on April 3, Sherry Lynn, daughter of Joseph F. Fischer and his wife, Judith Joan Hrubi; godparents: George L. Fischer and Arlene B. Hrubi. Funeral: on April 18, Mrs. Alexander Kazup (Elizabeth Boros), 61, wife of our custodian. The Junior Women’s Guild is planning a mother and daughter social and a Sarah Coreniry-demonstration on May 5. The plans of the Men’s Fellowship include a spaghetti dinner on May 10 and a Paper Mill Playhouse theatre-party on June 18. Confirmation will be on May 22, first communion of the confirmed young people on Pentecost Sunday. DUQUESNE On Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday 292 came to communion. There were 9 shut-ins and sick who received the sacrament. Miklós Balázs Sr., honorary councilman, assisted the minister in these ministrations. Lester D. Helmeczi was our Student Assistant again during the Easter holidays. The choir has contributed to our worship services with anthems and other liturgical pieces. Mrs. Ann Shigo is our choir director. Good Friday was the appointed time of our union service at Christ Lutheran Church, when we participated in a 3 hours service with the other churches of Duquesne. Gene E. Bonacci was received into membership at the Easter worship service. Confirmation will be held on May 22nd, at the morning service. The confirmands will receive communion on Pentecost Sunday, May 29th. On Mothers’ Day the Youth Fellowship will honor the mothers at a dinner after the 11 o’clock service. June 19th is the date for the ordination of Lester D. Helmeczi, our ministerial student. The installation of our pastor is scheduled for September 25th. Vincent Brozosky’s funeral was on April 15th in our cemetery. Our congregation will participate in the Hungarian School at McKeesport, sponsored by the two Hungarian churches of McKeesport and the Duquesne church. The pastor will be on the teachers’ staff. PERTH AMBOY God has richly blessed our Easter holiday. 596 persons participated in Holy Communion; 419 at the English, 177 at the Hungarian service, and 33 sick people in hospitals and at home. The following new members were received: Mrs. Barry Kertész, Mrs. Stephen J. Blaho, Louis Brancati, Miss Nancy Totin. The generous donations of our member made it possible that the interest-free-loans will be paid back to our members. Thanks and appreciation to all who helped the church 3 years ago, during the general repairs. Our guest minister during Easter was Major Ernest M. Kosa, Chaplain, U.S. Army. The Sr. Women’s Club’s 45th Anniversary was held on Sunday, April 17th in our center auditorium. About 250 people attended the banquet. The speaker of the evening was Dr. Sándor Kiss, Chief Elder of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. Since 1954 the Club had an income of $98,626.28. Mrs. Frank Varga President handed over to the church $1,500 as their anniversary gift. May God bless one of our most helpful organizations. May 7th, Saturday, the Christian Youth Fellowship Car Wash project in the church yard for the benefit of the Conference Fund. May 15th, Mother’s Day dinner in the Center Auditorium. May 19th, Thursday Ascension Day worship service at 7:30 P.M. followed by the examination of the Sr. Confirmation Class.
