MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 promise that the Federation would build the camp if we would use it. He got a standing ovation from the group. Saturday evening, at the fireside jamboree, there were many good skits and lively singing. Sunday morning, everyone participated in the communion service, after which Rev. Stephen Kovács presented the second topic, Our Spiritual Heritage. The young people were impressed with the topic, Rev. Kovács stated that even in their pagan religion before Christianity, the Hungarians had a high standard. Then he explained the acceptance of Calvinism over any other form of Protestantism. Some of the things that impressed me were the confidence and trust with which the Reformed Church treats their members as persons capable of grasping the truth; the directness which our religion gives you in your relationship with God; the simplicity of Reformed divine services; the biblical manner in which our church administers the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Sunday afternoon, Rev. Stephen Szőke spoke on church government. This also was a very inspiring talk. The business meeting was again called to order and a few more recommendations were passed: 1. That each member in service or at college shall receive the Magyar Egyház, if requested, with the cost being defrayed by the B. Y. F. 2. Three more advisors were recommended to the Bishop because the group is getting too large for two advisors. They were Mrs. Elizabeth Dudich, Mr. John Farkas and Mr. John Nemish, the latter declining in favor of another minister from the East. 3. The formation of an Alumni Club for the purpose of helping the B. Y. F. financially (and in my opinion grooming future advisors). Also to give the young people of 21 and over a chance to again take part in some church work, etc. Bob Szepesi of Duquesne was appointed chairman. We were proud to hear that Nancy Szabó, of Staten Island, and Maria Dobozy from Trenton were two of the winners of the Federation Scholarship contest. The new officers elected for the ensuing year are: President: Les Martin (Trenton) Vice-President: Richard Apáti (Akron) Secretary: Linda Jensen (Carteret) Treasurer: Albert Helmeczi (Duquesne) Members-at-Large: Diane Bodnar (Staten Island) Louis Nagy (New Brunswick) Faith Katona (Trenton) Andrew Lovász (Perth Amboy) Jerry Vontell (Youngstown) Bill Kish (Detroit) John Nagy (McKeesport) A special thank you to the advisors and chaperones attending. There are always a few who need special attention and we’ve been kept pretty busy. I have recommended to the B. Y. F. Board that all clubs planning to come to camp after this must be accompanied by an advisor or chaperone. Plans for an Advisor Workshop are being discussed for all advisors. You will hear more later. We extend our sincere thanks to the 5 women in the kitchen who worked diligently all day to feed so many people. It was greatly appreciated, I can assure you. Our congratulations are also extended to the Akron Club for hosting a very successful conference. John Farkas, the advisor, deserves a lot of credit. A job well done. When we, from the East, boarded our 3 buses on Monday morning for our trip home, we were given a big box of food to be eaten on our way home. This was a nice gesture from the Akron Club. We all thank you. We stopped at Ligonier, Pa., where we were served a delicious dinner. Bishop Nagy had John Nemish speak before the Federation’s Camp Committee concerning the permanent campsite, while Rev. Daroczy took the group on a tour of the orphanage, home for the aged, and the church on the hill. On our way home, some of the remarks I heard were “I can’t wait until next Labor Day wekend”, “Gee, we had a good time. I wish it was next week again”. These were music to our ears. We are looking forward to next year’s conference which will be hosted by the Perth Amboy Club. Helen Nemish B. Y. F. Advisor
