10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ YOUTH NEWS WESTERN DISTRICT YOUTH MEETING The Second District Meeting of the Western Classis Youth Federation was held on April 12 in Youngstown, Ohio. The day began with a special church service at 12:15 P.M. Afterward lunch was served by the ladies of the church. The guest speaker was a representative of the Peace Corps. He gave a very interesting talk on the main objectives of this outstanding organization. Questions about the various qualifications for selection and the particular difficulties of serving in underdeveloped countries were discussed. At the business meeting the proposed constitution and by-laws were presented and, after some changes, accepted. The following officers were elected: President — Joseph Brindza. Vice-President — Richard Apáti, Secretary — Ruth Sapos, Treasurer — Frank Fabian. The advisors are the Rev. Stephen Szőke, Mr. Joseph Farkas of Akron, and Mr. Gene Chepke from Youngstown. Special guests from the East were Roger Bodnar and Les Martin who helped with useful suggestions. After dinner a local disc jockey provided entertainment. The next meeting will be held on June 14 in Duquesne. “Interfaith Marriages” will be discussed in preparation for the National Youth Conference. OPEN LETTER TO THE YOUTH OF THE WESTERN CLASSIS On behalf of the Eastern Area Youth Federation I would like to wish you God’s blessings and good luck on the formation of the IFestern District Youth Federation. We in the East know that by belonging to the Eastern Area Youth Federation we have come to know one another better. This has enabled us to work in stronger fellowship for our church. You, in the West, have taken a big step toward this goal. At times it might be a little difficult and you might feel that you should give up. But don’t give up, work even harder. We are looking at you with much concern. You see, we have been hoping for some time now that you would form a Federation similar to ours. So don’t let us down, better still: don’t let yours el ves down. Before I finish / would like to take the opportunity to thank the people in Youngstown who made Les Martin and myself feel at home when we attended the youth conference on April 26th. Your hospitality was overwhelming and very warm. We shall always remember each one of you. And if you are down our way, don’t forget to stop in. Roger P. Bodnar EASTERN AREA QUARTERLY CONFERENCE Approximately seventy-five representatives from six church youth groups attended the last quarterly conference of the Eastern Area Youth Federation at Trenton on April 26. In addition, numerous advisors and parents as well as two representatives from McKeesport took part in the conference. The conference opened at 2:30 with devotions after which Rev. Charles Partee gave an introduction to the theme of the conference: marriage. Following the introduction which was designed to stimulate thought over the various aspects of marriage, the group broke up into four smaller groups to discuss such topics as; “Christ and His Bride,” “Husband and Wife,” “The Eternal Father and the Eternal Son,” “The Parents and the Children.” Other ideas, including interfaith marriage, the seriousness of divorce, the Roman Catholic viewpoint on marriage, and the Christian purpose of marriage, were discussed. Amendments were added to the constitution and by-laws during the business meeting. These changes opened the Eastern Area Youth Federation to any Reformed church youth groups complying to certain regulations specified in the constitution. It was also decided that the Perth Amboy youth club would take the responsibility of the annual picnic to be held in July. After the conference an excellent supper was received by all in the school auditorium. After the meal and during the social several compliments were received by the young ladies of the Trenton youth groups for the excellent meal which they prepared themselves. (Who says the girls now-a-days can’t cook?) The Trenton Young People’s Society and the Trenton Youth Fellowship would like to extend their thanks to all who attended the conference and pray that everyone received a better Christian outlook on marriage. IFalter M. Katona STATEN ISLAND YOUNG PEOPLES CLUB Hi everybody! Yes, we are still here and strong as ever. On May 9th the members of our club attended a dance at the New Brunswick church; we had a very enjoyable time. We also held our annual Mother’s Day dinner. We had the help of the Women’s Guild and we greatly appreciated it. Right now we are planning to go to the World’s Fair as a group. We felt that this was an opportunity that we just didn’t want to miss. So we’ll see you at the Protestant and Orthodox Center at the fair. Roger Bodnar The Rev. Joseph Cookson and the Rev. László Kovács were ordained to the Christian Ministry at the meeting of the Eastern Classis at Carteret.
