MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 QUARTERLY CONFERENCE OF EASTERN CLASSIS OF THE FREE MAGYAR REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA The conference of the Eastern Classis was held at 3:00 P.M. at the Staten Island Reformed Church with youth groups from Carteret, New York, Perth Amboy, Roebling, Trenton, Staten Island and guests from Duquesne participating. The guest speaker was Rev. Gabor Csordás and his theme was “The Rise of Phanatical Religions.” Topic was open for discussion and members participated actively Several delegates stressed the importance of a profound knowledge of our own religion as well as of the ministers’ work in youth counseling. We closed this part of the program with a hymn. During the business meeting, which followed, the Secretary’s minutes and the report from the delegates’ meeting were read. Then social activities were discussed and this is our Social Calendar: (1) Dinner Dance — November 30, Hotel Hilderbrecht, Trenton; Band: Szőke. (2) Christmas Social — Date to be decided, Carteret. (3) Eastern Classis Annual Dance—January 4, Hungarian Home, Roebling; Band — Kara-Nemeth Bros. (4) Delegates Meeting—Date to be decided (5) Quarterly Conference—Date to be decided both at Carteret. Supper was prepared by the Young People’s Club of the host church. Surely everyone enjoyed this conference and we hope to see the same old faces and many new ones at the next Conference in Carteret. Miss Julia Wargo, Roebling, vice-president, presided at the Conference. Fruzsima Harsanyi McKeesport youth fellowship . . . Minutes of Wednesday, September 11, 1957. “Magyar Church” does not plan to print minutes of meetings. However, we feel that the following one can serve as a pattern how to conduct a meeting and how to plan the program of a local Youth Fellowship. Regular weekly meetings have begun again and we hope to accomplish much before the year ends. The meeting was opened with the singing of Hymns 451, 436, 383, 387. Reverend Nagy said a short prayer, the Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. Then Reverend Nagy read chapter 14 from the book of Genesis and answered some questions concerning the reading. Dolly Jacob, the newly elected secretary to the Bethlen Youth Federation, gave the members a report on the conference. The Fellowship extended congratulations to all of the new officers and they are looking forward to the next conference. A brief discussion of the conference followed. It was decided to have meetings in a definite order beginning October 2. 1st. Wednesday—Business meeting 2nd. Wednesday—Topic—Discussion 3rd. Wednesday—Regular meeting 4th. Wednesday—Fellowship night (social) Pat Balogh volunteered to give the first topic on October 9. At each regular meeting someone will be appointed to take over the duties at the social. All meetings will start at 7:30 All members were asked to be on time. Steve Pastor suggested that all members should hold some sort of office or position so that everyone will have more interest in the Fellowship. Donna Fazekas was appointed to take charge of the news for the Magyar Egyház. William Jardanhazy suggested we send in our minutes of this week since this is the best meeting we have had for some time. Ilona Gorun volunteered to take care of the recreation at the coming social. Donna Fazekas suggested we have something at the socials as they did at the conference to keep everyone interested. Steve Pastor suggested we forget about recruiting new members until we ourselves are more strong in our present membership. The meeting was adjourned on motion by Donna Fazekas and seconded by Ilona Gorun. BETHLEN YOUTH FORUM
