51 SUMMARY EPILOGUE TO THE BUILDING DESIGN OF THE LIBRARY OF THE ACADEMY „While the fate of the new building of the Library of the Academy planned to be built in Roosevelt Square was accompanied by a public debate, professional consultations between librarians and architects, and manifestations of public opinion — as for instance the submission of the designs of the facade to critique by the public — and attention by the press, it disappeared from the agenda almost without an echo. The closing of the subject was published in a laconic release in issue No. 9/1969 of Magyar Tudomány (Hungarian Science): ,,at its June 24 meeting the Presidium took notice of the suspension of the design work of the Library of the Academy." This article is an obituary to the planned new library building. The author of the article „does not deny his bias. As one of the originators and organizers of the failed enterprise, he considers it his moral duty^to remember the passing of the plan — at least in the professional library press." The article projects that the „problem of the new building of the Library will be revived in another form and a solution will be found in a perhaps less demanding but economically more realistic framework." (This is being realized while this volume goes to press, see: The Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences around the year 2000 ...) Megjelent: Könyvtáros, 22.1972.7. 402-403.p.
