Apor Éva, Ecsedy Ildikó (szerk.): Hungarian publications on Asia and Africa : 1950-1962 : A selected bibliography = Magyar szerzők Ázsiáról és Afrikáról : 1950-1962 : Válogatott bibliográfia

Bevezető (Bese Lajos, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Könyvtára Keleti Osztályának vezetője)

The material of the bibliography is arranged under the headings of the various countries of Asia and Africa. Within the geographical divisions, the following sub-divisions are to be found: general works; socialhistorical sciences; linguistics; history of literature; literature in translation; ethnography; fine arts; theatre, and works relating to the present status and conditions of the given country. This specification, however, is not indicated in the table of contents. Miscellaneous works are entered under one sub-division only, i.e. under the subject heading which refers to the main topic. Introductions, prefaces, and postscripts of scientific value, written to various publications (in the first place to literary translations), are taken as separate items, and are entered separately with a reference to the publication itself. Thus, the author of the introduction, preface, and postscript is indicated under two entries at the same time. The alphabetical index also indicates both. In the case of literary translations, the items are entered under the name of the translator. The alphabetical index of names gives information on Hungarian authors, authors of translated or reviewed works, and translators, as well as on such names occurring in titles which are of special significance in respect of the subject. 2 17
