Introduction to Volume 7 of the Publications In the Preface of Volume 3 of the Publications of the Museums of the County Veszprém the Editor made an announcement concerning the potential publication of so-called special volumes. As regards natural science the first such possibility has arrived now. The present (7th) volume of our Publications contains exclusively treatises in the field of natural science. As a special volume with topics taken from the sphere of natural science can be considered as an organic link in the publication programme of „The nature portrait of the Mts. Bakony". Tn the course of carrying out our scientific enterprise it has been pointed out to our collaborators at several occasion that the results of the Bakony-investigation in addition to the series „The results of the Bakony-investigation from the view-point of natural science" can be published in the Publications of the Museums of the County Veszprém as well. In response to our invitation several issues of the series „The results of the Bakony-investigation from the view-point of natural science" and the essays of the present volume of the Publications have appeared. The authors of the volume are — with a few exceptions — active participants of the Bakony-investigation, while in frequent cases the articles of the individual investigators represent the first data or the first synthesis of a minor topic concerning their Bakony-investigation extending to several years. It is our firm conviction that in order to get acquainted with the Bakony as a region of nature one must have a thorough knowledge concerning both of its living and inanimate world, furthermore of that of its past and present conditions. The essays on science history, geology, geography, climatology, botany and zoology contained in the volume — abstract as they may seem on the basis of their titles — truly contribute to getting an up-to-date knowledge concerning this region of our native country that gives home and working place to many a man. Only by publishing many a detail in the form of data and essays can one attempt a comprehensive summing-up of the knowledge concerning the Bakony from the view-point of natural science. This is the main objective of the present volume of the Publications and we would highly appreciate the contribution of the Bakony-investigators toward to publications of another special volume in the field of natural science.
