Történelmi személyiségek 1809-ben - VLADIMIR BRNARDIC: A híresebb fiú híres apja

Dishonoured he withdrew himself with his family to Zagreb, but he spent most of his time in his summer cottage, modest wooden log in Kurilovec near Velika Gorica. There in 1807 he got his third son Anton and soon after his only daughter Cecilia that died of tuberculosis in the bloom of youth. All the three sons of Jellachich; Joseph, George and Anton followed their fathers career and became Imperial officers and reached high ranks. In Kurilovec old Feldmarchal-lieutenant hurt by injustice have spent many nights by writing many letters and leading personally court trail to prove his innocence and to defend his military honour. Former hero and member of the highest military order often looked his Knight cross of order of Maria Theresa. Before a favourite of glory and fortune suddenly he had found himself at the life bottom, indignant and humiliated. The court lasted for almost four years, until 1809. In the eve of the new war with Napoleons France the council of generals rehabilitated Jellachich and gave him back his rank. He was appointed commander of the division in Tyrol. But in this war also, burdened with long court, old Feldmarschall-lieutenent was unlucky. After unsuccessful siege of Salzburg and withdrawing of Austria's armies in Germany and Italy he was forced also to withdraw. During his march towards Graz and the army of archduke Johann he was attacked by the army of Napoleon's stepson and Italian viceroy Eugene Beuharnais by Saint Michael near Brück am Mura. Although defeated by overwhelming enemy he managed with the rest of his force to join the archduke and to withdraw towards Hungary. At the same time the unusual and interesting meeting took place in Vienna. Already in May 1809 Napoleon with his Grand Armée took the city where Jellachich eldest son, eight-years old Joseph, nicknamed Pepi, just started to attend famous noble school Theresianum founded by empress Maria Theresa. There is still school inside and in the schoolyard is a memorial of Croatian Ban Joseph Jellachich. Jellachich himself had during his conversation with general Neustadter remembered this encounter while he was watching Napoleons portrait: "I bought this portrait in Vienna because his head look really like Napoelon's. I saw Napoleon in 1809 when I was 8 years old in Schönbrunn surrounded by his marshals during parade of Imperial Guard. General Marziani, who was there as a POW, got a permission to introduce me to him. French generals were very polite, the name of my father was well known to them, especially to Masséna..." Napoleon stroke little Jellachich over his hair and supposedly by his custom slightly pull his ear. The fate of the destiny took French emperor to the imprisonment on the island Saint Helen and Joseph Jellachich to the top of Croatian and Austrian politics of revolutionary 1848. By the odd play of the history Croatian Ban was first general after Napoleon that entered Vienna on the head of an army in the war that shook Habsburg monarchy! In the time of the encounter of little Pepi and French emperor Feldmarschalllieutenant Franz Jellachich fought the last battle of the war and his also. By Raab in Hungary French defeated the last Austrian forces composed mostly of Hungarian insurrection. After the Treaty of Schönbrunn Jellachich got difficult task. By Imperial order he had to discharge and unarmed six border (Grenz) regiments lost when the territory on the
