Jellachich had tried to avoid this unpleasant duty before the emperor: "I beg your highness to free me from this terrible duty, because the weapons is the only sign of honour to this poor, but honourable Grenzer soldiers, I owned to them the cross of Maria Theresa on my chest; taking of the weapons from this people means dishonour." But the emperor was relentless because the members of former deputies were almost beaten. Jellachich, due to his reputation among the Grenzers, was the only one who could do this. He managed to perform this unpleasant task, but with broken hart. After he had returned to his command post he soon got ill and very quickly died in February 1810 far away from home. He was buried in the crypt of former Benedictine monastery in Zala-Apathy. During the stormy period of further Napoleonic wars his name soon fell into oblivion and it was later entirely overshadowed by the name of his son, famous Croatian Ban Joseph Jellachich. In further course of the history famous father of more famous son, feldmarschall-lieutenant Franz Jellachich, almost completely fell into deep dark of Croatian history.
