The mixed taiga forest, also containing thermophilic/mesophilic [?] relicts of the late glacial, the forest/ forest change on the Pleistocene/Ho locene cusp, the development of a pine refuge probably in the Bakony foothilb, and the development of deciduous forest dominated by elm, ash and oak, are all of outstanding moment for vegetation history in the early Holocene. Of great archaeological importance is the evidence of the strong simultaneous appearance of crop production and livestock breeding associated with the coming of the Neolithic, the reconstruction of mature agricultural activity in the mid-Neolithic, and continuation of this through the late Neolithic and Copper Age. It is archaeo logically verifiable that the human presence on the edge of Mezőlak has been continuous form the Kisapostag Culture of the early Bronze Age to the present day (List 1—9, Figures 13—21), and the drilled pollen data accords with this (Figures 7—12).
