Praenorica Folia historico-naturalia, VII (2004) пит antennarium, A. gracile, A. gracilipes, Platynus scrobiculatus, Amara fulvipes, A. lunicollis, A. nitida, A. plebeja, Harpalus marginellus, H. modestus, Lebia marginata and Dromius schneiden. The Rába is in one of the most natural states of any river in Hungary, which from the faunistic point of view distinguishes it from the rest of Vas County. The ground beetle fauna of its constantly damp riverside verges is specific and characteristic, so that several nationally rare species have been collected along the Rába, as the sole location in the county in most cases. Earlier zoological collections on the Vas County stretch of the Rába were largely confined to the Őrség (Alsószölnök, Csörötnek, Körmend, Magyarlak, Rábagyarmat, Rátót, Szentgotthárd). The researches were mainly along the 'living' Rába and published in SZÉL and HEGYESSY (1996). Later investigations have been made along the lower Rába banks in locations for which data had not hitherto been known (Ikervár, Meggyeskovácsi, Püspökmolnári, Rábahidvég, Rum, Sárvár). There are several data in Gábor HEGYESSY and Győző SZÉL'S 2002 study The beetle collection of the Mátra Museum, Carabidae (Coleoptera), mainly from collections by Attila PODLUSSÁNY. The rare species along the Rába are as follows: Cicindela transversalis transversalis, Nebria livida, Dyschirius agnatus, D. bonellii, D. digitatus, D. intermedius, D. parallelus ruficornis, D. tristis, Perileptus areolatus, Thalassophilus longicornis, Trechoblemus micros, Bembidion doris, B. fluviatile, B. foraminosum, B. guttula, B. illigeri, B. litorale, B. lunatum, Agonum scitulum, Amara crenata, A. lunicollis, A. plebeja, A. tibialis, Harpalus autumnalis, H. fuscicornis and Oodes gracilis. The Vas Hills are bounded by the Kőszeg Hills to the north, the frontier to the west, the Rába to the south and the Vas Valley to the east. Earlier, Sándor HORVATOVICH (1980b) published occurrences of 39 ground beetle species in the Narda district. Some other data are included in a later publication (HORVATOVICH 1992). Systematic ground beetle collection has occurred in several parts of the Vas Hills in the last decade, mainly using soil traps and sifting. Recent researches has been done at Dozmat (Nagyjápla), Felsőcsatár (Pinka banks, central area), Gencsapáti (Perint banks, central area), Kőszeg (Alsó-rétek), Nárai (Nagy-hálási-erdő, Nárai-erdő), Perenye (Gencsi-tilos, Külső-erdő, Szinesei-patak banks), Sé (Séi park forest), Szombathely (Park forest) and Vaskeresztes (Pinka banks, Pornóapáti-patak banks); findings of these are published here. The rare species of the Vas Hills are these: Nebria rufescens, Dyschirius digitatus, Bembidion decoratum, B. illigeri, B. stephensii, Pterostichus transversalis, Agonum scitulum, A. versutum, Amara curta, A. gebleri, A. lunicollis, A. majuscula and A. plebeja. The Vas Ridge (Kemeneshát) and Kemenesalja lie in the south-east of Vas County in a zone 15-20 km wide and 45-50 km long, between the Rába and Marcal rivers. It is bounded to the north-west by the broad, marshy, filled valley of the Rába, from which a steep lip rises, to slope gently down to the valley of the Marcal. The northern part is the Vas Ridge (Kemeneshát), a plateau remaining from the former gravel cover of the Rába, rising up about 20-40 metres. The southern part is the low, undulating marsh of the left bank of the Marcal, in which several small volcanic hills lie. This and the floodplain and terrace of the right bank of the Rába constitute the Kemenesalja, which surrounds the Vas Ridge. There have been only sporadic entomological researches so far in the Vas Ridge and Kemenesalja, with regular soil traps used only at Nádasd and Körmend and on Ság Hill. The rare species in the Vas Ridge and Kemenesalja are these: Elaphrus uliginosus, Bembidion doris, B. guttula,
