The problem of the “thousand years long vacuity” of the Romanian people and the theory of continuity that tried to solve it, deeply interfused Romanian research. Today it became an important pivot of the Romanian national self-consciousness. Returning of the problem to the level of scholarly dispute seems to be a very long process. However, the appearance of the new, more objective approach gives hope.
