Butterfies and larger moths (Lepidoptera: Macrolepidoptera), and their characteristic habitats in the Dráva Lowland region, Hungary Levente ÁBRAHÁM and Ákos UHERKOVICH The conservational status assessment of the Duna (Danube)-Dráva National Park went on in 1996 and 1997. The first summary of data published earlier, and reports on data from museum collections were published in 'The Fauna of the Dráva Region, I" (UHERKOVICH, ÁBRAHÁM 1995). The present study conveys further faunistic data, includes the characterisation of the most typical habitats, and extends to issues of fauna conservation. Collectings were usually performed as nighttime light trapping, using portable light traps, and butterfly-nets. Samples were taken in 90 localities within an area 150 km long, and a total of 589 species were shown to occur during the past three study years. 19 species were had not collected in the area earlier (Nola confusalis H.-Sch., Atolmis rubricollis L., Sedina buettneri Hering, Schinia cardui Hbn., Trichoplusia ni Hbn., Astiotes sponsa L., Opistograptis luteolata L., Akis repandata L., Diastictis artesiaria Den. & Schiff., Operophtera fagata Scharfenb., Eupithecia pini Retz., E. pygmaeata Hbn., Archiearis puella Hbn., Aglia tau L., Leptidea reali Reissinger, Colias erate Esp., Thecla quercus L., Fabriciana adippe L. and Apatura iris L.). The summarized number of species oncreased up to 775 in the whole of Dráva river region. The fauna was characterised with the presence of dominant, rare or protected species in the various habitats. Along river Dráva 8 characteristic habitat types were differentiated.
