ZOLTÁN MIKLÓS FODOR DATES ABOUT THE GALLERY OF NÓGRÁD COUNTY In the 18th century, portraits of monarchs and lord-lieutenants of counties were set in the meeting rooms of the County Halls in Hungary. In the 19th century, in the Hungarian Reform Era, the theme of paintings was expanded with the portraits of the outstanding persons of the national movement. In the shire-towns of the country, inclu­ding Balassagyarmat of Nógrád county, the galleries enriched just till the World War II. The pictures were usually made by famous artists. At the end of the World War II during the Soviet occupation, the most of the pic­tures of the gallery of the County Hall of Nógrád were lost, perished or confiscated. In 1951, a few of them was transported to the Museum of Fine Arts of Budapest, however, their fate is unknown. The author reviews the pictures of the former gallery taking various sources and works for his basis. 52
