JANKA STEIB THE IMPACT OF MINING ON THE TRADITIONAL COSTUMES OF THE NOGRAD COAL-BASIN ’From dressing down to gowning up’ - fruition of an exhibition The launch of coal-mining in the second part of the 19th century was perceptible in every township around Salgótarján. Mining has attracted other works, factories into Salgótarján. The industrial growth had influence on the living conditions of the residents of Nograd County. Thanks to the mining inspired industrial development ’dressing down’ had started taking place - in some areas the different provincial traditional attirements were left behind, whereas in other places for that very reason wearing the traditional costumes had blossomed. The regions of the County were firstly touched by the changing of the traditional garments, were the ones with a closer direct relation to the mining industry and railway. The Dornyay Bela Museum had organised a temporary exhibition between 27th April - 25th August 2018, named ’From dressing down to gowning up’. The exhibition through the tools of museology showed all those changes that were evoked by mining and industrial development in the Nograd coal-basin - centering dressing, clothing - the role of the traditional costumes and mineworkers’ uniform as objects of legacy of traditions. The study describes the above topic through the realization of the exhibition. 370
