BALÁZS TÓTH METAL FINDS FROM THE AREA OF PÁSZTÓ AND MÁTRASZŐLŐS I. ARROWHEADS In 2013, 221 pieces of mostly medieval and early modern metal finds were levied in Pásztó. The defendant, who did the illegal metal detecting survey, professed that he found all the pieces in the Pásztó - Mátraszőlős region in Nógrád country, but we know no exact locations. It seems that the finds came from different sites. That is why we can only date the pieces with analogous finds. This time I would like to present all the 75 arrowheads from this material. The 50 arrowheads with tang (catalogue number 1.1-50.) belongs to 29 groups; their weights are between 2 and 18 grams. Some of them could be dated between the 9th and 11th centuries, but they are mostly late medieval (13th-14th century). We have two pieces (Table II., 1-2.) which probably came to Eastern Europe with the Mongols in the 13th century, but we have no doubtless evidences for that. The 25 arrowheads with socket (catalugue number II.1-25.) are in 20 groups. They are between 2 and 50 grams. The heaviest heads (Table IV., 7-13.) were used surely for crossbow arrows. A special type of them (Table IV., 1-4.) was used by the avars, later in the 9th-10th centuries, and finally in the 13th-14th centuries, but without the accurate locality of these finds we cannot decide the dating. Only one arrowhead is from the prehistoric period: it is a scythian type (Table IV., 14.); all others are medieval (13th-17th centuries). 459
