4. Mátraszőlős A series of freshwater sediments was exposed in the Northern margin of the village close to the „Rákóczi Chapel”. The sampling took place between 1998 and 1996. Three localities were excavated (Mszl, Msz2, Msz3). Sedimentation occured in a shallow swamp or lacustrin environment without any rework of the finds. The minor and fine bones of amphibians and birds are preserved. The mollusc fauna was classified as Late Badenian. From biochronological point of view the most important element of the rodent fauna is the typical Democricetodon freisingensis. In all the vertebrate material is referable to the MN 7/8 zone. 5. Kozárd The locality is situated in the northern margin of the village in an erosional trench by the side of the motor road leading to Nagymező Puszta. Sarmatian marine sediments (limestones, calcareous sands, marls) are exposed in the trench which are extemely rich in molluscs. The marine microfossils point the Elphidium reginum Zone of the early Sarmatian. The vertebrate material was collected from a 15 cm thick dark layer in 2014 and 2015. The rodents are possible to be classified as elements of the MN7/8 Zone. 250
