Catering establishments in the past and the present have been focal points of social life and reflections of cultural development. The social milieu of these places shapes forces influencing political life. From the everyday happenings passionately discussed at the table the lasting ones as factors affect the development or decline of culture both inside and outside the catering facilities. And this applies to the place, its rooms, the owner, the staff and last but not least to the guests and their habits. The study examines the catering industry in the heart of Nógrád, the town of Luéenec from the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century.
