István Fodor To the memory of Péter Domokos (1936 - 2014)) Péter Domokos was an internationally significant representative of the Hungarian Finno-Ugric research. First, he taught at the Finno-Ugric faculty at Szeged, later at Budapest university, and was the head of department of the latter for 10 years. He was most significant Hungarian researcher of the smaller Finno-Ugric peoples’ literature. His most influential monograph Az udmurt irodalom története (History of the Udmurt literature) was published in 1975 in Hungarian and later in Russian (Izhevsk, 1993). His book on the literature of the small Finno-Ugric peoples was published in Hungarian in 1985 than in 1993 in Russian in Yoshkar-Ola. His books and papers made the literature of these small peoples known to the European research and to themselves as well. P. Domokos was actively organizing scientific and literature activities, he made the Finno-Ugric literature part of the international Finno-Ugric studies and organized a number of meetings and conferences for Finno-Ugric writers. Above these, he wrote important handbooks and monographs on the history of science. He exerted a wide teaching activity in Hungary and abroad as well. 326
