TAX-PAYING RESIDENTS OF EGER DURING RÁKÓCZI’S WAR OF INDEPENDENCE (1703-1710)

The main objective of our PhD thesis is to explore in detail the Eger-related history of Rákóczi’s War oflndependence and examine the factors that contributed to Eger becoming one of the bases of the rebellion. In previous years our publications have mainly covered the military history aspects of our research and the latest results related to this subj ect. The next phase of our work focuses on the socio-economic correlations, which enable us to give a more logical answer to the question as to whether the residents of Eger had any economic potential that would (could) have reinforced the town’s status as a base. The first phase of the multi-step research analyses the stratification of Eger’s tax-paying residents and their financial status during the Rákóczi era, using quantitative primary sources not previously subjected to detailed comparative studies in the literature on the local history.
