THE RESEARCH ON THE FOLK ART OF HEVES COUNTY

The research program which enjoyed the support of the National Research and Development Programme of the Ministry of Education, carried out comprehensive examinations on the traditional culture and its still living forms in contemporary society in the territory of Heves County. After collecting data from more than 38 county collections, the heritage of traditional folk art was revealed. A folk art database of 25 thousand items was completed, a volume bearing the title “The Folk Art of Heves County” published, and finally an exhibition opened, presenting the typical branches of traditional folk art existing in the county. This was the first time such a comprehensive publication was completed, in which a highly detailed picture of the folk culture of the region is outlined. The research documented the process by which the possible forms and frames of folk handicraft during the second half of the 20th century, can be established.
