The royal towns of Upper Hungary (Kassa-Kosice, Lőcse-Levoca, Bártfa-Bardejov Eperjes-Preäov, Sabinov-Kisszeben, Késmárk-Kezmarok) had, by the first half of the fifteenth century, formed such a close alliance that made necessary to set up a satisfactory information network. The adequate of an interior news emergence network was a result of the power relations existing within the economic, political and judicial spheres. Within the alliance indisputably Kassa played the central role in the dissemination of information, whilst Eperjes filled the role of a relay station where news was gathered from the other member towns of the alliance before it was passed on to Kassa. It is interesting to note that spies financed by the alliance were also used as a source of information in addition to the agents who had been delegated to the imperial towns. The scale of the absolutist judicial reforms which were implemented during the reign of Emperor Leopold I meant that the old tried and tested channels of communication disappeared. The decline of the member’s town of the Upper Hungarian alliance made them incapable of finding new information channels as efficient as those they had previously used. A felső-magyarországi szabad királyi városok (Kassa, Lőcse, Bártfa, Eperjes, Kisszeben, majd a 17. század második felében csatlakozó Késmárk) már a 15. század első negyedétől kezdve olyan szoros véd- és dacszövetséget alkottak, hogy működése komoly információshálózat kiépítését tette szükségessé.1 Mielőtt azonban rátérnék szorosan vett témánkhoz, szeretném röviden ismertetni, melyek voltak azok a területek-témák, amelyek a szövetséget alkotó városok gyűlésein leginkább szóba kerültek. A Pentapolis néven emlegetett szövetség az ún.
