N. Mészáros Júlia: A Győri Művésztelep működésének és alkotótevékenységének 35 éve
The works made at the symposium in the last years comprise a wider range than earlier, outlined by an ample choice of creations combined with computer graphics and photographs, paintings, sculptures, works of paper and book art, original graphics and prints as well as installations. Among the members of the creative community formed by invitation every year, we can unsually find European and extra-European artists as well as an artist from Győr, one or two living in Budapest and other settlements of the country, not infrequently professors teaching at universities of art whose work also have a strong influence on the younger generations, who are internationally recognized in their own field and decisive or important personalities of today’s art. The programmes are flexible, of guiding charcter, they can be extended or specialized on the the actual participants demand. Numerous issues, however, are still not resolved. One of the most vital is that of stabilization and optimation. It will be the task of the coming years to develop further the twin town and international relations, to make them mutual, to join the international movement of symposia directly, to connect the activity at the artists’ symposia and graduate, postgraduate artistic education, to create their conditions as well as to continue the professional elaboration of the collection of the artists’ symposia, to evaluate the achievements from the viewpoint of art history. Easing of accommodation problems, modernization of the broken down equipment of the Graphic Workshop, improvement of material and working conditions of activity in several kinds of fine art, at the same time creation of the background of artistic activity tied to present-day up-to-date technological conditions have remained topical alike. Notes and literature: 1 The first exhibition of the artists’ symposium opened under the title The First Exhibition of the Symposium of Transdanubian Fine Artists at the Exhibition Hall in Győr, on 4th January 1970. In: Kisalföld, 4lh January 1970 Furthermore, Károly Góczán stated in 1974 in connection with the artists’ symposium like this, ’We wish to develop the Artists’ Symposium of Győr - similarly to the others of national fame - to a Transdanubian creative centre.’ Lajos Finta: A Creative Workshop Has Been Found in Győr. An Opportunity to Gather Experience. And an educator must use every means of selfdevelopment so as to succeed in facing the risk of becoming dull.” Lajos 86
