JÓZSEF HORVÁTH: Pál Gladich (1855-1922) Pál Gladich, born in Magyaróvár in 1855, served as the Roman Catholic parish priest of the village of Magyarkimle, Moson county, for 38 years at the turn of the 19 M and 20 M centuries. The present study presents the outlines of his divergent activities he performed during this period until his death in 1922. He edited a children's magazine en titled Őrangyal (Guardian Angel) for 32 years since 1886, it was published once a fortnight and reached the farther points of the country, too. In Magyarkimle in the 1910's he ran a press where interesting publications of good quality were published at low cost. He acted as the editor and publisher of many vocational and literary works together with other periodicals. He took an invaluable part in the dissemination of Gregorian chant in our country; his children's choir in Magyarkimle made it evident that even children of simple rural origin can produce appreciated performances. The extra courses for cantors" in Magyarkimle were famous all over the country, and the cantor Kimlensis (the cantor trained in Kimle) became a special term. As a composer he left behind almost a dozen composition of chu rch music; his role as a patron also exceeded his financial capacity. His manifold activity can only be sketchy in a brief study, his life-work has to be discovered in details by further research. 327
