P. Lipták: A skeletal Find from the time of the Hungarian conquest at Öttevény

A SKELETAL FIND FROM THE TIME OF THE HUNGARIAN CONQUEST AT ÖTTEVÉNY As a result of the rescue excavation executed by A. Uzsoki in the autumn of 1960 in the village of öttevény a skeleton was brought to light. It is dated to the tenth century, the age when our ancestors have conquered Hungary. The data of the anthropological investigation are summed up in Tables V —3. The excellently preserved cranium belonged to a man over 40 years (Mat.) probably. Its characteristics are in short: dolichocranic, orthocranic, acrocranic, euencephalic, metrioanetopic, leptoprosopic, mesenic, mesoconchic, mesorrhinic. On the basis of the long bones the stature may be assessed at 161 cm. Taxonomical analysis proves the presence of a representative of the gracile (or Classic) Mediterranean race. This type is not a characteristic one'in the Hungarian population of the Conquest Era, it was found among the contemporary series of the Homokmégy-Halom and Üllő-Ilona Road cemeteries only. P.
