CARD SYSTEMS OF DOKUMENTATION AND THE POSSIBILITY OF THEIR APPLICATION IN INDIVIDUAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH Among the various methods of recording data the study investigates the card systems of documentation (catalogue card, aspect card, marginal punched card, slotted card, machine punched card); it deals with the problem, which of them is applicable in individual research in the orbit of archaeology and how. The author classifies the card systems under two heads: systems applicable without machinery (onerow, two-rows, three-rows marginal punch card and aspect cards with a capacity of 2000, 6000 and 7000 positions), and those needing the use of machines (slotted card, machine punched card). Having surveyed the possible use of both groups, he reaches the conclusion that individual research may utilize the not machineable systems, among them the one-row marginal punch card of a small size, the two-rows marginal punch card of a large size and the aspect card. Of the card systems applicable in such studies the author presents his own code systems, helping him in recording scientific literature, dealing with his special subject in agrarian history and in reconstructing the population of various periods palaeosociographically. The paper finally analyzes the mechanism of establishing code systems and valuates the advantages and drawbacks of these card systems of documentation. A. Kralovánszky 218
